WinsBack

The app does not score them

I started this when things were really bad.

Within about six months, I had to close most of the food and beverage businesses I was running.

Creditors.

Lawyers.

Liquidators.

Court appointments.

Every day brought another call, another problem, another piece of bad news.

At night, I was having panic attacks. Sometimes I listened to self-affirmations or gratitude recordings just to interrupt what was happening in my head.

Then I gave myself one small thing to do.

Write down the wins.

Some days I wrote:

Woke up.

That was the win.

Another day:

Had lunch.

Maybe the rest of the day was creditors, lawyers, liquidators, and court. But most days I did not even have time for lunch.

So lunch counted.

Played with my daughter counted too.

That counted a lot.

I put the wins on a random Twitter account. It was not connected to my name. I was not trying to build an audience.

I just needed somewhere to leave a record.

Writing them down did not fix the businesses or make the creditors disappear.

The day could still be fucking awful.

It just meant the awful parts did not get to erase everything else.

Years later, I needed the same thing for the opposite reason.

I was productive again.

Then AI came along, and I was building things, testing things, burning through tokens and quotas, and getting a ridiculous amount done.

I would still finish the day thinking:

What did I actually do?

My head had already moved on to the next ten things.

So I started recording the wins again.

One year, the win was waking up.

Another year, it was shipping a project.

The app does not make one bigger than the other.

It does not know what the day cost me.

It does not know whether lunch was easy or whether lunch meant I found twenty quiet minutes between lawyers and liquidators.

It does not know whether playing with my daughter was the only good part of the day.

It does not know whether shipping something took an hour or consumed weeks of my life.

So it does not score them.

There are no badges, points, or completion percentages.

No streak.

No punishment disguised as encouragement because I forgot yesterday.

Three is not a rule.

I can write one.

I can write ten.

I can skip a day, disappear for two weeks, come back, and write another.

Nothing happens.

The record waits.

It is private. There are no followers, likes, comments, or public feeds. I write a few short lines and leave.

I am not trying to rank one version of my life against another.

The shit year counts.

The productive year counts.

Woke up is not smaller than shipped a project.

If it mattered that day, it counts.

That is all I wanted from the app.

Not another system telling me whether I had done enough.

Just a record that says:

This happened too.
